Šejla Šehović, MD, MSc

Specialist in Internal Medicine, Subspecialist in Cardiology

A member of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and the Association of Cardiologists in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After completing medical school, she undertook clinical training in Paris at “L'Hopital Saint Joseph.” This was followed by a subspecialization in clinical cardiology at the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV) in Switzerland. She also completed an ACP International Fellowship/Subspecialization in advanced echocardiographic methods at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, Ohio, USA. Additionally, she received training in clinical cardiology and echocardiography at the General Hospital Vienna (AKH).

She has worked at prestigious institutions such as the University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery Charité in Berlin and the University Hospital in Düsseldorf, specializing in heart transplantation and LVAD patients. This provided her with valuable experience in treating heart failure, transplant patients, and patients with mechanical heart support (LVAD). Her expertise includes complex echocardiographic cases, particularly in the area of heart valve disease. Her clinical and research interests include coronary vascular dysfunction, non-obstructive coronary disease, advanced non-invasive cardiovascular imaging, and cardiovascular prevention. Through years of work in cardiac surgery in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany, she developed expertise in treating patients before and after cardiac surgery. She is a cardiologist with extensive experience in clinical cardiology and cardiovascular diagnostics.

She holds certifications for all advanced echocardiographic methods, including transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, carotid Doppler, strain rate/speckle tracking, dyssynchrony assessment, 3D/4D imaging, and more. These techniques enable her to precisely diagnose heart failure, valvular disease, and vascular conditions.

She is the only recipient of a Swiss Government scholarship in the field of medicine for subspecialization in clinical cardiology, under the mentorship of Professor Kappenberger. She is also one of five global recipients of the American College of Physicians International Fellowship, selected as the youngest specialist in internal medicine to pursue subspecialization in cardiology and advanced imaging methods under the mentorship of Professors Eric Topol and Mario Garcia at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center. She has published professional papers internationally and was awarded the WCC grant at the World Cardiology Congress in Dubai for her research work.
